Welcome back to school, Makos! It's hard to believe it is another school year as we welcome our new students along with our kindergarten class (Graduating class of 2029!) This last year, our school staff, students and parents were amazing in sharing their skills, talents, and work ethic to do what is best for kids. Our teachers and students continue to strive for excellence which is measured through their character and academic achievement. Last year, Vista del Mar Elementary School was honored as a California Gold Ribbon and Honor Roll School. These accomplishments are a great indication of the dedication and hard work of our teachers, students and parents to provide children with an exceptional education experience.
If you are new to the Mako Family, I welcome you to an incredible school that cares about children and enforces the importance of character attributes (Respect, Responsibility, and Readiness) as they pursue success in all academic areas, including technology. This year, our focus will be on writing which is one of the most difficult curriculums to teach and learn. We are grateful to our Mako Foundation for purchasing the curriculum and staff development. VdMES has an incredibly talented staff (teachers and support staff) who challenge students to higher levels of thinking and learning in different ways. Our students thrive for knowledge, grasping for new information and the opportunity to applying it in their lives.
VdMES has a positive parent presence that embraces family values, academic performance, and the San Clemente community. As a parent and educator, I know firsthand how student performance and success in school is directly correlated to parent participation. Even if your child doesn't see you at VDMES during the school day, they are aware of your interest and passion about being involved in their school through various activities. Your participation can occur in many ways including getting involved with our outstanding PTA and MAKO Foundation, volunteering in the classrooms or playground, or even teaching our students about your profession. We have had many of our parents share their talents in physical education, the arts, medicine, and technology. If you are unable to be here during school hours, your financial generosity supports our educational materials and programs, additional staffing, and technology hardware and software to improve student learning opportunities.
I am excited about continuing our work together as we prepare our children to be successful in college and career for the 21st Century.
